Here is Rev. Msgr. Dr. Anthony Anijielo, the new Chairman of Umuchinemere Pro-Credit Micro Finance Bank Enugu (UPMFB), the first bank to be owned by the Roman Catholic Church in Nigeria, through the Enugu Diocese.
UPMFB was first established as a Community bank on July 22, 1995 by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Enugu during the time of Late Bishop Michael Eneja and it later transformed to a Micro Finance Bank in 2007 when the Federal Government of Nigeria introduced Micro Finance Banking in the country.
Msgr. Anijielo took over from Rev. Msgr. Prof. Obiora Ike at the Bank's 20th AGM held on Friday 29th July, 2016. Msgr. Ike is now in Geneva, Switzerland where he heads a world body on Ethics.
Msgr. Anijielo, an experienced Administrator, a one time Secretary of Enugu Diocese and currently the Parish Priest of St. Leo the Great Parish, Federal Housing Estate, Abakpa Nike, Enugu (where Msgr. Ike was the immediate parish priest), was ordained a priest in Germany in 1980, having studied Theology in Austria and specialized in Fundamental Theology. He is from Ebe in Udi L.G.A. of Enugu State. He has held many other positions in the church.
The Church's establishment of the bank was primarily for poverty alleviation among the poor in the society, especially its poor faithful, in tune with the Catholic Church's Social Teaching of Economic Evangelisation.
